We are now in Sommieres, a most fascinating town built around the bridge over the river, 6 arches are on the river, 11 are under the town and you can walk through little passageways underneath it all. The aire is free and we have been here for 3 nights now, and will probably stay a fair few more. Lovely town, Lidles is 2 minutes walk, and no reason to zoom on!
The drive here was quite hairy though with gale force winds sweeping over the wetlands, and I nearly got blown over on the ferry we took to cross the Rhone!
There are lots of inland lakes and streams around here.
Interesting town, Arles.
We even saw a load of flamingos!
Little houses on little spits of land on the Rhone delta.
Some sort of bunker(?) with worm hole patterns!
After the flamingos we saw a pair of cranes…
Trying to stand up against the wind on the ferry over the Rhone!
Black looking streams…
This is one of the inland lakes, the wind makes it look like the sea!
And again. Very popular area for horse ridding round here.
Bridge to nowhere…
Driving across the bridge into Sommieres, the next 11 arches are through the gate house, with houses built on the “bridge”
Amazing rows of trees by the aire
Pictures of the town in next post!
